This year’s theme, Storytelling, Place &amp; Community , encompasses and questions:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;* Teaching about place *&lt;br /&gt;*Teaching about local communities and writing*&lt;br /&gt;* Geographical, cultural, and ecological landscapes *&lt;br /&gt;* Storytelling, poetry and narratives of how we live in our communities*&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;FESCUE brings together educators, researchers, students, and the community for the purposes of professional development, creative presentations, dialogue, and research dissemination. This two-day Conference is comprised of panel discussions, workshops, creative readings and performances, lectures, and symposia. /&gt;I know no stories&lt;br /&gt;salmonrocksriveroceanwillow&lt;br /&gt;of previous generations&lt;br /&gt;wovenlikebasketsoverandunder&lt;br /&gt;somebody was a farmer&lt;br type='text'>The Republic of Conscience</title><content type='html'>I.&lt;br /&gt;When I landed in the republic of conscience&lt;br /&gt;it was so noiseless when the engines stopped&lt;br /&gt;I could hear a curlew high above the runway.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;At immigration, the clerk was an old man&lt;br /&gt;who produced a wallet from his homespun coat&lt;br /&gt;and showed me a photograph of his grandfather.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The woman in customs asked me to declare&lt;br /&gt;the words of our traditional cures and charms&lt;br /&gt;to cure dumbness and heal the evil eye.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;No porters.  No interpreters.  No taxi.&lt;br /&gt;You carried your own burden and very soon&lt;br /&gt;your symptoms of creeping privilege disappeared.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;II.&lt;br /&gt;Fog is a dreaded omen there but lightning&lt;br /&gt;spells universal good and parents hang&lt;br /&gt;swaddled infants in trees during thunderstorms.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Salt is their precious mineral.
